Diabetes, an injection a day keeps the symptoms away!

Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The disease known as diabetes is when the body does not properly produce insulin or not enough for the body to function properly. The cause of diabetes is not known but it can be controlled and is only fatal in a rare number of cases. Usually this is because the disease was left unattended. It can cause lasting harm to the body such as blindness also and should be taken seriously and treated properly. There are two basic types of this ailment and you should seek medical attention if you suspect either.

Type 1 is thought to be the most serious. It is when the body does not produce any insulin at all. It becomes clear in childhood or in young adults. This type of diabetes must be treated with daily injections on insulin in order for the patient to stay alive. This type accounts for about five to ten percent of all cases.

The greater numbers of patients have Type 2 diabetes. In this type the body produces some insulin but not enough. It is thought that this type may be a result of the greater numbers of aged in the population, obesity and a sedimentary lifestyle. It is easy to be tested for this disease and you should seek advice from your doctor about how to treat it. Some people live for many years untreated but it is not the healthiest way to live.
