A cold is a viral infection characterized by inflammation of the mucous membranes lining the upper respiratory passages and usually accompanied by malaise, fever, chills, coughing, and sneezing. In this sense, also called common cold, coryza. The virus usually enters our bodies through our eyes or nose but it can also enter through the mouth. We often introduce colds to ourselves because of unclean habits. We touch our faces and transport viruses that we have picked up in our environment. We should never touch our face or eyes without washing our hands first. Colds can easily move into our systems by simply rubbing our eyes with unclean hands. Avoiding this is easier than suffering the effects of the virus.

It is also possible to inhale the virus into your nose but the nose is designed to diminish the risks. Mucus and the mucus membranes keep dust and bacteria from entering the body. That is why it is best to breath through your nose when ever possible. This will reduce the colds chance of entering your body and making you sick. Especially be aware of this in crowds and try to always breath through your nose.

Prevention is the best bet when dealing with colds. There are many healthy food supplements that will help boost your immune system.
