Asthma, does it take your breath away?

Asthma is a chronic lung disease that makes the airways in your lungs inflamed. This means your airways are swollen and sensitive. The swelling is there all of the time, even when you feel just fine. It makes you feel breathless and make you wheeze, cough and struggle for breath. The swelling can be controlled with medicine and by staying away from things that bother your airways. When you have an asthma attack, your body releases chemicals that cause the muscles surrounding your airways to constrict and narrow. The lining of your airways becomes inflamed or swollen and begins to fill with mucus. This blocks your airways further and results in breathlessness and wheezing.

It is important to seek treatment for asthma and try to understand what is causing the symptoms. Different people have different triggers. A doctor will help assess your situation and determine the level or treatment you may need. You may also want to seek help in natural food supplements that help the body resist reaction caused by the irritants.

Asthma should always be taken very seriously as it can be a killer. Children offer suffer greatly from it but fortunately they will often outgrow it. There are many medications available to treat children so that they may attempt to live as normal a life as possible. Very often they will be limited in the activities they can do as it taxes their ability to breath. The treatment of children is a constant concern for their parents and often requires great lifestyle changes.
