Growing demand for more yoga classes

Sports and leisure bosses in Sandwell are having to stretch to meet growing demand for more yoga classes as health fans turn eastward to get fit.

They are responding to demand for more fitness yoga classes, with a new lunchtime session at Oldbury Leisure Centre from Wednesday 11th Feb. The new session will run every Wednesday from 1pm to 1.45pm.

Fitness Yoga is a fresh approach to mind and body exercise combining deep stretching, Yoga postures and Pilates exercises to develop flexibility, core stability and strength.

There has been an overwhelming response from fitness fans in Sandwell since fitness yoga sessions were launched at local leisure centres in the last few weeks.

Sessions are only £2.80 and due to the demand for classes elsewhere sports and leisure chiefs recommend people book their places or check availability before turning up.

People with a Leisure Pass - the most affordable way to access health and fitness in Sandwell - can book over the telephone in advance.

Cabinet member for youth and cultural services and a board member of the new Sandwell Sport and Leisure Trust Cllr Linda Horton said: There has been an absolutely amazing demand since we launched fitness yoga in Sandwell.

We have laid on this extra class in order to try and meet that demand.

We offer a fantastic range of fitness and exercise sessions and I'm sure this will appeal, especially to those looking for a healthier way of spending their lunchtimes.

But I would warn people to book early to avoid disappointment, as there are limited spaces available.
