80 percent of the top prescriptions are prescribed for stress-related symptoms
You love her, you adore her, but sometimes she drives you crazy. Many a mother and daughter would agree: relationships can be stressful. And stress, experts agree, can lead to ulcers, high blood pressure, anxiety and depression.
In fact, 80 percent of the top prescriptions are prescribed for stress-related symptoms. But can your relationship with your mother or daughter truly impact your physical health?
Relationships are a huge part of this stress factor. To reduce stress, it is important to find ways to communicate more effectively, said James Nicolai, M.D., medical director of the Franciscan Center for Integrative Health.
If we can find ways to better communicate with those people who are important to us, it can significantly improve our relationships — not only how feel about them, but how we feel about ourselves.
Dr. Nicolai will present a free seminar for mothers and daughters called I’m Too Busy to Relax! This seminar, sponsored by the St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers’ Cardiac & Vascular Care Center and Spirit of Women programs, takes place at the Greenwood Community Center.
Dr. Nicolai will discuss how to minimize stress in everyday life. Topics will include:
* Tips on nutrition and health supplements.
* Techniques to reduce stress, such as breathing techniques.
* Factors that may increase stress.
* Ways to improve communication skills to relieve stressful situations.
