Donaldson company introduces high-performance automotive air filter

Donaldson Company, Inc., a leading manufacturer of filtration systems and replacement parts, today introduced its Blackwing air filters, a high performance filter line for cars, light trucks and SUVs. Donaldson takes filtration to another level with Blackwing filters through two product releases in this line, a high performance air filter for the C5 Corvette and a filter Cleaning Kit, used for filter maintenance.

Donaldson’s Blackwing C5 air filter is made with high performance Synteq synthetic media. This media incorporates a significantly smaller fiber diameter for improving airflow and dust control over the life of a Blackwing filter. Airflow lab testing has shown Blackwing high performance filters outperforming competitor filters by as much as 18 hp depending on the engine and air intake system.

The Blackwing air filter line marks one of Donaldson’s first endeavors into the high performance automotive and light-duty truck market, said Val Peterson, director of commercial vehicles, Donaldson Company. By using the best filter media to improve performance and increase the life of the engine, we’ve truly raised the bar in this market. To date, all filter manufacturers have used either cellulose or cotton gauze media. Cellulose media can’t be washed and reused. Synthetic media and cotton gauze can be washed and reused. However, loose cotton fibers can be rinsed out of the cotton gauze media after only a few washings, resulting in decreased filter efficiency. Synteq media has a much greater resistance to fiber loss.

Blackwing air filters can be washed and reused, saving time and money. If serviced correctly, Blackwing air filters last much longer than conventional filters and one filter can provide a lifetime of engine protection.
