Finally! All the soy goodness without the soy taste

If soy’s health benefits are an attraction, its flavor can be a distraction. Soy-based foods have traditionally had a beany unpleasant flavor and only devotees of health foods have been avid consumers. Until now.

Spectrum Foods Inc. of Springfield, Illinois recently announced the introduction of a new product line of soy-enriched foods under the brand name Premier Harvest that provides all the benefits of soy without the unpalatable beany soy taste. The line consists of 11 products: all-purpose baking mix, pancake mix, chocolate chip cookie mix, brownie mix, soy flour, cold expeller-pressed unbleached soybean oil, soybean spray oil, taco, sloppy joe and chili meatless vegetarian entrées and, most recently, Soy Anytime®, an all-purpose soy/rice nugget that can be added to ordinary foods. All Premier Harvest products are made with certified non-genetically modified soybeans.

The Premier Harvest line is made using Nexsoy brand soy ingredients. The revolutionary Nexsoy process eliminates the traditional beany soy flavor. Unlike other processes, the Nexsoy process is totally chemical-free and retains the full nutrition of the whole soybean.

Researchers have produced many studies revealing the positive health benefits of adding soy to the diet in helping to control heart disease, cholesterol, the effects of osteoporosis, symptoms of menopause, and certain types of cancer. In October 1999, the FDA ruled that food processors could include a soy health claim on product packaging with respect to heart disease. Foods that contain at least 6.25 grams of soy protein per reference amount customarily consumed and which are low in fat, saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium, qualify for the claim. Several Premier Harvest® products qualify for this claim.
