Nutrition and Active Living Organizations Team up to Provide Albertans with Strategies to Create a Healthy Lifestyle
Alberta Partnerships in Nutrition Education today announced the release of
Healthy Living for a Healthy You, a newspaper-style booklet dedicated to providing Albertans with
practical, reliable information on creating a healthy lifestyle.
According to ALPINE spokesperson, registered dietitian Heidi Bates, healthy eating and active living are
key to reducing the risk for diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease and cancer;
conditions that plague large numbers of Albertans.
The lifestyle choices we make on a day-to-day basis have a tremendous impact on our health, both
today and in the future, says Bates. Our goal is to help Albertans make lifestyle change a simple,
straightforward process. We recognize that issues such as lack of time are challenging people to lead
healthier lives. Healthy Living for a Healthy You provides down-to-earth, real-life ideas on how to
overcome these barriers.
Bates continues, Readers of our booklet will find easy-to-use recipes, and information on how to
integrate physical activity into daily life. Best of all, Healthy Living for a Healthy You contains sound,
reliable information from trusted organizations. It’s information you can count on!
ALPINE is a coalition comprised of the Alberta Cancer Board; the Alberta Centre for Active Living; Alberta
Milk; Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation; Canadian Cancer Society; Canadian
Diabetes Association; Dietitians of Canada; Alberta Health & Wellness; Health Canada
, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta. This is the first time that such a group has
come together to ensure common health messages for Albertans.
The ALPINE project will provide Healthy Living for a Healthy You directly to Albertans by offering it at no
charge through a variety of organizations. Copies of the booklet can be obtained from regional
community health nutritionists, local branches of the Canadian Diabetes Association, Be Fit for Life
Centres, and Alberta Community Development.
